Jerome Clem Interview
So tell us Coloradians where you live in France, it is so beautiful there.
I live and work in Clermont - Ferrand, in the center of France.
What do you care about more than anything?
My children of course, I have 3. 2 big boys and a pretty little princess!
Are you a full-time artist or do you have a “real” job?
No I’m not a full-time artist, I guess it’s very hard to live from only art ….. I have a full-time job and that explains why I don’t have too many paintings ! I can only paint during the weekend.
You add so much color to your work! When did you find out that you liked pop art?
I have always liked the color, especially the color red. Red can be found in all my canvas work and paintings. The color adds to the humor of pop art.
Do you ever paint any Marvel characters?
Of course! Not only marvel characters, I also paint Disney characters, looney tunes, video game characters and lots of others who come through my head. It’s my childhood with Mickey the nice boy and Daffy the bad boy!
Are you annoyed with these questions yet?
Not yet! The harderst thing for me is to translate in english (Haha)
Have you visited America? If so, where did you go?
Not yet, but I hope someday, I would really like to visit America, NY for sure, Denver maybe!
If you could give François Hollande a painting, what would it be?
I would give him the canvas titled “Let’s Go Rock’N Roll” because I think he needs to ”Rock’n Roll “ in his life!
What do you think about when you’re walking and lost in thought?
I often look at the walls of the cities especially those with graffitis, I like the colors of it.
In my thoughts, I become a child with its heroes (Marvel, Disney, Looney Tunes…)
What well-known artist inspires you?
Roy Lichtenstein, the king of pop art, Basquiat, Andy Warhol and Erro.
What underground artist inspires you?
All the graffiti artists who decorate the walls of the cities.
Where do you think creativity comes from?
Our childhood, our dreams, how we live every day.
Is there a certain place in France that causes your brain to flood with ideas?
Everywhere! But I really like Paris, because we can find all the arts.
Have a favorite singer or band?
I like electro music, the electro music of the 90’s and my favorites are Daft Punk and Moby.
Who would play you if someone were to make a movie about your life?
Oh I don’t know…maybe Guillaume CANET because my wife loves him!
If you could spend a week with 10 famous people, who would they be?
The Dalai-Lama for his purity of soul
Omar Sy (French actor) who really makes me laugh
Jeff Koons who would make me visit his workshop
Bruce Willis, who could make me visit America
Monica Belluci, that could make me his beauty
And of course my wife and my three lovely children
What do you get really excited about?
I’m excited by the life, the funny life
